A die casting RFQ is most useful when it lets the supplier understand the real part, not just the part name. Missing details usually lead to repeated questions, inaccurate pricing or tooling changes later.

| Information | Why it affects price |
|---|---|
| 3D and 2D drawings | shows geometry, tolerance and machining surfaces |
| Material grade | affects casting process and cost |
| Annual quantity | influences cavity number and production plan |
| Surface finish | changes deburring, coating and inspection cost |
| Inspection standard | defines reporting and checking work |
The most common issue is that buyers send a 3D file without marked critical dimensions. A 3D file is useful, but 2D notes still matter for tolerances, threads, surface finish and no-coating areas.
For new tooling projects, review mold design and tooling before confirming the order. Product example: custom aluminum die casting parts.
Can a sample replace drawings?
A sample helps, but drawings are still recommended for tolerance and repeat production.
Should surface finish be quoted separately?
Yes. Painting, powder coating, plating and machining can change the total cost significantly.
When the RFQ is incomplete, suppliers are forced to make assumptions. Those assumptions may differ from the buyer's real requirement, which creates price gaps between suppliers and unexpected changes after the order.
| Cost driver | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| slider or side core | increases mold complexity |
| CNC machining area | adds cycle time and fixture cost |
| surface treatment | requires preparation, masking and inspection |
| tight tolerance | may require more inspection and process control |
The purpose of an RFQ is not only to get a price. It is to let the supplier understand the manufacturing route before cost is fixed. If the RFQ does not identify machined surfaces, coating requirements or inspection points, the first quotation may be incomplete. Later corrections then look like price increases, even though the real issue was missing information.
For a custom die casting project, Huabo reviews wall thickness, parting line direction, sliders, visible surfaces, machining datum, threads, surface treatment and expected batch quantity. This review helps decide whether the part needs a simple mold, side cores, inserts, CNC machining, painting or special inspection.
| RFQ missing item | Possible consequence |
|---|---|
| no annual quantity | wrong cavity and tooling plan |
| no surface finish | coating and masking cost missing |
| no critical dimensions | inspection scope unclear |
| no 2D drawing | tolerances and threads guessed |
